The story of the Noël sawmill
Founded in 1947, the sawmill has constantly grown and reinvented itself.
Founded in 1947 by Joseph Noël, the Noël Sawmill was established in Larchamp, in the north of Mayenne, during a period when the timber industry experienced remarkable growth.
From its inception, the company distinguished itself through the quality of its sawing and its respect for the material, values that remain central to its operations.
In 1984, the founder’s children took over the sawmill and continued its development.
The business expanded to include forestry operations and custom sawing, while preserving the artisanal spirit for which the company is renowned.

COLLABORATORS
In the 1990s, the sawmill modernized its production facilities: installing drying kilns, a biomass boiler fueled by by-products, and constructing modern storage buildings.
These investments improved the quality of the wood, enhanced energy efficiency, and demonstrated a long-term commitment to forest resource management.
In the early 2000s, the sawmill reached a new milestone: it began exporting its timber frames and supporting projects in France and abroad.
In 2010, the creation of a secondary processing entity – La Raboterie – allowed Scierie Noël to expand its product range with interior and exterior finishing products: decking boards, cladding, flooring, and other ready-to-install solutions.
In 2020, Pierre Nogueira took over the management of the company, maintaining the same family-oriented and passionate approach.
Drawing on his experience in the timber industry, and more specifically in secondary processing, he initiated a new dynamic: modernizing equipment, developing custom products, and making sustainable investments to meet customer expectations and environmental challenges.
Our commitments:
People and sustainable development
Precision work, passion, and teamwork are the values we cultivate every day at the sawmill to satisfy our customers.
The Noël company has always chosen to place people at the heart of its organization. Convinced that a company’s success depends first and foremost on its employees, we make it a point of honor to value the expertise and skills of each of our staff members.
Today, we are going further by implementing a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) approach, in order to integrate our actions into a comprehensive and sustainable vision.
Our goal: to continuously improve our practices to reduce our environmental impact, promote local resources, and preserve the forest for future generations.
This approach translates into several concrete commitments:
🔁 Responsible management of wood supplies sourced from sustainably managed forests within 150km of the sawmill
🔥 Optimal use of the material by recycling or reusing every by-product of the sawmilling process, particularly to fuel our biomass boiler
⚡ Optimization of our energy consumption and development of more sustainable solutions, such as the use of biodegradable oil
👥 The well-being and safety of our employees, essential members of our company, through job analyses and a continuous training plan
